A woman from King’s Lynn has appeared at Norwich Crown Court today (Wednesday 20 April) charged with murder.

Emergency services were called to an address on Highgate on Saturday 16 April at 12.30am after a woman in her 50s was found inside a property with serious injuries.

Three people were arrested in connection with the death and were taken to King’s Lynn police investigation centre for questioning.

Pending formal Coroner’s inquest proceedings, police have provisionally identified the body of the deceased as Dace Kalkerte, aged 50 and from King’s Lynn.

A Home Office post mortem examination that took place on Saturday 16 April established that Ms Kalkerte died as a result of stab wounds to the abdomen.

Birute Klicneliene, age 50, of Sir Lewis Street, King’s Lynn, was subsequently charged with murder, and appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday 19 April).

A man aged in his 50s and a man aged in his 40s, who were arrested in connection with the death, have been released with no further action to be taken.

A police cordon will be in place for the remainder of the week as detectives continue with local enquiries.

Ms Klicneliene appeared at Norwich Crown Court this morning (Wednesday 20 April) and is due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 13 June.

A trial date has been set for 17 October and is expected to last three weeks.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Chris Burgess of the Joint Major Investigation Team says,

“As part of the ongoing investigation, we have been able to recover CCTV footage from the area close to the scene.

We would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of Highgate, Morrisons, Wyatt Street, The Walks and Seven Sister/Hospital Walk in King’s Lynn between 10pm on Friday 15 April and 1am on Saturday 16 April to come forward and speak to police.

We would also like to ask anyone who has yet to come forward and who may have information to assist the enquiry to contact us.”
