This year marks the 20th anniversary of maverick Norfolk based art-rock band The Neutrinos and they are giving everyone the opportunity to see a free exhibition of gig posters from throughout their career. The Neutrinos 20 years of Noise exhibition runs from Tuesday 22 January to Saturday 26 January. It can be seen free from 1pm- 5pm Tues-Fri and 10am-6pm Saturday and by ticket holders at evening events up to Sunday.

‘Through the years we’ve developed a variety of styles for gig posters and we thought it would be interesting to see a selection of them together’ said Karen Reilly of The Neutrinos. ‘some of the artists we have worked with like Sal Pittman, and Paul Flack have also created designs, video art and record sleeves for many other bands and record labels.’

The exhibition includes the black and white poster for their very first show at the now long lost Fat Pauly’s in Norwich and the one for their first NAC gig when Lene Lovich who had a number one hit with ‘Lucky Number’ was their support act. They have managed to source posters from many of their London and first New York gigs and KlangHaus events in Edinburgh, London and elsewhere.

‘It gives a small snapshot of what we’ve been up to for the past two decades’ said Karen.

Other anniversary activity includes the special gig at Norwich Arts Centre on 26 January with special guests Graceland. There will also be an extended interview with Sam Day and exclusive tracks on BBC Norfolk’s Sophie Little show on Friday 25 January and a ‘Neutrinos Radio Hour’ programme on Future radio on Wednesday 23 at 6pm. On both of these the band discuss their achievements over the past 20 years and play music exclusive to each programme.

Like every Neutrinos performance the show on 26 January will be a one-off event from a band renowned for their experimental approach to presentation. Throughout their career they have abandoned preconceptions of what a gig should be, blurring the boundaries between music and live art and between performer and audience.

Their irrepressibly adventurous nature has led them to perform on boats, in complete darkness at The Sainsbury Centre, in a former horse hospital, a bus depot, a disused small animal hospital, a former Inland Revenue Office and a vast furniture depository. They have made appearances at the Bloomsbury Festival and the Festival of Love in London, Manchester/Liverpool’s In The City music convention, North by North East, Toronto, Exit Festival in Serbia as well as the Norfolk & Norwich Festival. They have recorded in Berlin’s legendary Funkhaus and their music has been used for underground film soundtracks and throughout the feature length Channel 4 documentary The Trials of Amanda Knox. Their groundbreaking KlangHaus show, which to date has performed almost 100 times at London’s Royal Festival Hall, was described by The Guardian as ‘The most innovative presentation of live music I’ve seen’. The success of KlangHaus led to the band being invited to create the Concrete Dreams installation that celebrated the 2018 reopening of the iconic Queen Elizabeth Hall which itself was presented over 100 times on the Southbank.
