Young performers across the Norwich area have just a few days left to sign up for a chance to be part of Hairspray The Musical.

Echo Youth Theatre, which has had successes this year with performances of A Little Princess and William Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, are looking for a cast of up to 40 young people for their latest project which will be performed at Open in Norwich from Thursday 18 April to Saturday 20 April 2019.

Hairspray The Musical is a feel-good comedy and winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, as well as four Laurence Olivier Awards. A critically and commercially successful film version was released in 2007.

With memorable songs such as Good Morning, Baltimore and You Can’t Stop The Beat, the show continues to be a widely produced musical. Its timeless message that everyone should be treated equally regardless of social, cultural and physical differences, is as relevant today as it was in the sixties.

Director, Dan Rayner, said: “We are looking for young people from all different backgrounds who love to sing and perform. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have lots of stage experience, the key thing is that you are enthusiastic and willing to work hard.

“We have been overwhelmed with the response for auditions so far and spaces are filling up fast so if you are interested in taking part please sign up as soon as possible.”

An information evening is being help on Thursday 3rd January at Open in Norwich from 6.30pm-8.30pm for anyone who is interested in auditioning.

Auditions will take place at Open in Norwich on Friday 4th January 2019 and Saturday 5th January 2019.

Audition slots are available to book via the website www.echoyouththeatre.co.uk where you will also find full details on casting and the production.
