ENGLISH YOUTH BALLET PRESENTS SWAN LAKE – JUNE 19-20
The search is on for 100 young dancers to star in a production of Swan Lake at Norwich Theatre Royal
English Youth Ballet is looking for the cream of performing talent aged eight to 18 to appear in the ballet at Norwich Theatre Royal in June.
The auditions will take place on Friday 13 March at Sprowston Community Academy. They will take the form of a ballet class where the young people also get the chance to learn techniques and enhance their skills.
Janet Lewis, English Youth Ballet director, said: “We want to make the audition an experience in itself. English Youth Ballet is all about the performance experience and this starts at the audition as the dancers get a ballet class. Parents and family are encouraged to watch from the audience. We are looking for young dancers of all abilities who can show the audience how much they enjoy dancing.”
Once selected, the 100 chosen performers are coached and mentored by professional dancers during an 11-day rehearsal period, which happens outside school hours.
As well as having the opportunity to be part of the performance, it also gives the young people an insight into how a production is put together.
They will then take to the stage at Norwich Theatre Royal alongside professional dancers for performances on June 19 and 20.
English Youth Ballet is now in its 22nd year and is one of the UK’s largest ballet companies. It is headed by Janet Lewis who enjoyed an illustrious career with the Royal Ballet and London Festival Ballet dancing alongside the likes of Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev.
Its principal dancers have performed with some of the world’s greatest companies and it is known for presenting lavish, large-scale classical productions.
Auditions will be held on Friday 13th March at Sprowston Community Academy, Cannerby Lane, Norwich, NR7 8NE.
