BREAKIN’ CONVENTION
Some Bank Holiday breaking and body-popping is on the cards for Norwich as a host of top hip hop performers prepare to invade the city.
Members of the Cambridge-based group SIN Cru will showcase their skills in various parts of the city on Bank Holiday Saturday April 29.
You can catch them outside The Forum at 11am and 3pm, and in Norwich’s Castle Mall at 12pm and 2pm.
The displays will act as a preview for the international hip hop dance festival Breakin’ Convention which comes to the Theatre Royal on May 13.
Passers-by will get a flavour of what hip-hop is all about with some high-energy displays which will help spread the word about the internationally-renowned event, which is coming to the city for the first time.
John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “Ticket sales for Breakin’ Convention are already very buoyant and we hope this exciting high-octane display will let even more people get an idea about what is in store. The festival is a great opportunity to see some of the top performing talent locally and internationally right here in the city.”
Even more events are planned on May 13 at the theatre when Breakin’ Convention finally takes to the stage. During the afternoon, there will be the chance to help create a temporary graffiti wall and tag a baseball cap from 2pm.
From 5pm, the theatre will then host displays and DJ-ing from a host of dancers and performers in its front-of-house areas.
And then it is curtain-up at 7.30pm on Breakin’ Convention itself which will see a host of top international performers take to the stage including South Korea’s high energy crew Just Dance, Canadian urban contemporary duo Tentacle Tribe, and South Africa’s distinctive comedy contortionists the Soweto Skeleton Movers.
They will share the stage with the Norfolk-based Parallel Dance Studios, Norwich’s all-male dance company Legacy, and Cambridge’s inventive company Fly (No Filter) who won their places after completing an audition in front of the Breakin’ Convention team.
