Choir to perform in Norfolk church renowned for one of the most beautiful acoustics in the UK

The summer concert from Norfolk’s groundbreaking Voice Project Choir is Arc of the Sun, which will take place on 15 July at St Peter and St Paul Church, Salle, Norfolk. The church is renowned internationally for having one of the most beautiful acoustics in the UK, if not the world.

The concert will feature original music and inspiring poetry that explores our relationship to nature and the landscape. It will include newly created material as well as original songs from previous projects Arc of the Sky and Ideas of Flight.

Although Norfolk based, the choir of over 100 voices have been rehearsing in Norwich and Brighton since April for the show. A parallel choir was established a few years ago in Sussex following successes at the Brighton Festival and for the Salle Church show singers from the south coast will be joining the Norfolk choir.

Voice Project Co-director Sian Croose said.’Salle is the most fantastic place to sing and the architecture of the church, as well as its setting in the Norfolk landscape makes it a really inspiring place for us to stage a summer performance with The Voice Project choir who will be joined by our brilliant soloists Lisa Cassidy, Jeremy Avis and Sharon Durant, and world class instrumentalists Adrian Lever and Rowland Sutherland.

Founded by experienced singers and artists Sian Croose and Jonathan Baker The Voice Project Choir has been creating large-scale, site-responsive choral performances of new music for arts festivals and special events since 2008. It’s a true open access community choir in the most literal sense, absolutely anyone can join whether they have any experience of singing and music or not. There are no auditions and everything is taught by ear with no need to read music. Despite this, their performances are produced to exacting professional standards. They perform music that is specially written for them by internationally-renowned composers and present it in innovative theatrical ways to create spectacular events that live long in the memory.

The choir is part of the wider Voice Project organisation, a music education charity that runs courses in a variety of singing styles throughout the year.

Arc of the Sun will involve some promenade performance but audience members with access/mobility issues will be catered for.
