· Let the people sing! Milestone show that was on when Norwich Theatre Royal was forced to close at the start of the pandemic makes a long-awaited return

· More than two years since Les Misérables was cut short, its return will be ‘a poignant moment for us all’

· Undisputedly one of the world’s most popular and contemporary musicals, its return signifies Norwich Theatre’s significant recovery

The show, which was on when the pandemic forced the closure of Norwich Theatre Royal makes a momentous return this month.

It was on 16 Mar 2020 – just a week into a four-week run of sell-out shows – when Les Misérables was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, the show was on course to be the highest-selling show in Norwich Theatre’s history.

Undisputedly one of the world’s most popular musicals, this new three and a half week run has nearly sold out at Norwich Theatre Royal, with audiences looking forward to iconic songs including I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, and Do You Hear the People Sing?

CEO and Creative Director of Norwich Theatre, Stephen Crocker said:

“Welcoming Les Misérables back is a poignant moment for us all at Norwich Theatre. However, it is not about looking back. It is about getting back. It is a moment of closure and – at last – being able to fulfil our promise to our incredible audiences by delivering one of the greatest theatrical productions in the world in their home theatre that they love and value so much.

“At last, our audiences who have been so patient and supportive will ‘hear the people sing’, and it will be glorious.”

Since Cameron Mackintosh first conceived this acclaimed new production of Les Misérables in 2009 to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary, it has taken the world by storm.
The show stars Dean Chisnall as ‘Jean Valjean’, Nic Greenshields as ‘Javert’, Rachelle Ann Go as ‘Fantine’ Ian Hughes as ‘Thénardier’, Will Callan as ‘Marius’, Nathania Ong as ‘Eponine’, Helen Walsh as ‘Madame Thénardier’, Samuel Wyn-Morris as ‘Enjolras’ and Paige Blankson as ‘Cosette’.

Boublil and Schönberg’s magnificent iconic score of Les Misérables includes the classic songs, I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Stars, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Master Of The House and many more. Several of its songs have become real life anthems of revolution wherever in the world people are fighting for their freedom. Seen by more than 120 million people worldwide in 52 countries and 22 languages, Les Misérables is undisputedly one of the world’s most popular and contemporary musicals.
