Art fair attracts international participants including painter from The Lebanon

Art Fair East, one of the Eastern region’s largest and liveliest contemporary visual arts events, is the kind of event rarely seen outside London. It brings together artists, galleries and dealers from the UK and overseas, including a large contingent of talented artists from across the east of England, and takes place in the spectacular setting of Saint Andrews Hall in the heart of Norwich, from 2-4 December.

Amongst those from overseas selected to take part is Beirut based Rima Saab. The 48 year old artist will be bringing a selection of her mixed media work including paintings themed around the Beatles’ song Yellow Submarine.

Ms Saab said ‘I am so pleased and excited to have been selected from for Art Fair East 2016 out of all the submissions they receive. This will be a chance to reach new audiences with my work. I plan on displaying artworks themed around the Beatles’ song Octopus’s Garden. In my mixed media paintings I reflect upon natural symbolism, maybe the Octopus is our conscience diving in the shade of our inner soul. In our world, there seems to be no space for peace of mind amidst conflicting wars, human displacement, and turmoil of agony. Displaced identities, distracted memories of what we call “home”, scattered sense of belonging to no-where! One can only recoil and rest in an imaginary world under the sea in an Octopus’s Garden in the shade! There only we can look for tranquility by pure imaginative world of serene fantasy!’

Rima has previously exhibited in Madrid, Turin, Quebec and Saudi Arabia as well as at home in Lebanon.
Art Fair East’s co-founder Will Teather commented ‘We are delighted to have artist Rima Saab taking part in our 2016 event. We have had a fantastic range of submissions of high quality contemporary art, from across the UK and overseas. Art Fair East aims to showcase the best the art-world has to offer to a wide audience of collectors, art professionals and the general public and visitors will also be able to meet art experts and many of the artists whose work is on display. This year’s fair also features dealers specialising in signed editions by Damien Hirst and Banksy, alongside those offering work from the Norwich School of Painters including names such as John Kiki and last year’s Holt Festival Art Prize winner Bruer Tidman.

Now established as a regular feature in the annual art calendar, Art Fair East showcases a curated selection of quality galleries, dealers and artists and brings a slice of the art-world to both seasoned and new art lovers. The early December slot makes it a prestigious addition to Norwich’s Christmas shopping experience and offers visitors a great chance to expand an existing art collection, start their own journey into collecting or buy original and authentic Christmas presents for loved ones.

The fair was founded and is curated by experienced arts professionals Will Teather and Brian Korteling. Will Teather added ‘We have a passion to get people more involved in art, to value it and cherish it. I believe this will be the first time that signed editions of work by the likes of Damien Hirst and Banksy will be available in the region’.

Brian Korteling noted that ‘Art Fair East one of the largest temporary exhibitions of contemporary art seen in the East of England.’

Will Teather and Brian Korteling will also both be exhibiting. Will recently set a new sales record for the prestigious Other Art Fair in London. His spherical painting of Norwich’s Elm Hill Bookshop achieved the highest sale price ever recorded, becoming the first work to reach a five figure sum in the fair’s history. In July this year Brian Korteling’s Mirror Cube won the River Waveney Sculpture Trail Award.

Art Fair East wis presented in association with sponsors Musker McIntyre.
