Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious fire at a property in Thetford that happened yesterday evening (Sunday 29 May 2022).

Officers were called at 7.30pm to reports of a fire at a property in Staniforth Road, Thetford. Emergency services, including fire and ambulance, were at scene.

Seven people were assessed by ambulance at the scene. Four people were transported to West Suffolk Hospital, including a woman in her 50s, a teenager and an 18-year-old man from the property, who has sadly been pronounced dead this afternoon (30 May 2022). A fourth person was also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation. Two other people were taken to Addenbrookes Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and a further person was discharged at scene.

Police and fire are carrying out a joint investigation into the circumstances which led up to the incident.
