AN EVENING WITH SIR MICHAEL PARKINSON – 24 SEPTEMBER
He has chatted to around 2000 of the biggest names in culture, the arts and politics.
And now Sir Michael Parkinson is set to share some of his biggest memories and greatest interviews in front of a Norwich Theatre Royal audience.
In conversation with his son Mike and illustrated with highlights from the Parkinson archive, this will be a great chance to follow the legendary talk-show hosts story from his humble upbringing in a Yorkshire mining town to becoming a ratings hit on Saturday night, talking to the likes of Nelson Mandela, Marlon Brando and Muhammed Ali.
Viewers loved Michael’s incredible gift for drawing out the real person behind the headlines often persuading his guests to share anecdotes and parts of their life story publicly for the first time.
As well as the focus on his guests, the evening will also turn the spotlight on Michael himself as he talks about his relationship with his friends, family and colleagues.
Michael hopes people will come along and share his journey. He said: “It’s the story of how I made it out of a pit village to the top of those famous stairs with all the highs and lows along the way in the company of Billy Connolly, Muhammed Ali, Lauren Bacall, Sir David Attenborough, Joan Rivers, Sir Michael Caine, Madonna and Dame Edna Everage to name but a few.
“It’s a great show which I love doing and if I wasn’t on stage, I would buy a ticket.”
John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, added: “It will be a night of reflective and celebratory entertainment which will undoubtedly bring audiences the very best of a man who has shaped the perception of show-business, popular culture and recent history for years to come.”
