A day with a difference at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse
Sunday 25 September 2016, 10am – 5pm
Visit Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse on Sunday 25 September for a special event day to celebrate the work of heavy horses.
Horse Power! will see the museum’s own team of Suffolk horses working together with members of the Eastern Counties Heavy Horse Association to carry out all the seasonal tasks on the farm.
We are delighted to be joined by the Suffolk Horse Society this year who will be sharing information and film from its extensive archive and collection of over 22,000 items dating back to 1877. This is part of their Heritage Lottery funding to discover more about the heritage of the Suffolk Breed.
Be entertained with music and song from local horseman Ray Hubbard, Ray will also be exhibiting some of his extensive collection of horse memorabilia. Chat to horsemen and hear about the experiences of lives spent working with these animals. Discover more about the work of Brooke who are an international animal welfare charity dedicated to improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules.
For mechanised ‘horse power’, discover the energy generated by the museum’s steam boiler, running engines throughout the day and meet the Steam Up team, Gressenhall’s own engineers.
Meet the different breeds of heavy horse and see art inspired by such impressive animals with displays from local painters Frances Sullivan and Lesley Fotherby. Feeling inspired? Get creative in our special horse themed Art Attack!
