A simply scrumptious event at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse.
Sunday 15 October, 10am – 5pm
A Gressenhall tradition! Come and celebrate the best of autumn with all things appley: pressing, tasting, buying and naming. Enjoy live entertainment and music, meet local craftsmen and artists demonstrating their skills plus the chance to buy handmade products and local produce.
If you’ve always wondered what that “mystery” apple tree in your garden or orchard is, then Gressenhall’s Apple Day is the event for you. Experts from The East of England Apple and Orchard Project are here to help. Join us and taste some of the very best apples in Norfolk, whole or pressed as juice or even cider.
The site will be filled with music, from ‘Klezmerized’ playing lively klezmer music from Eastern Europe and with enjoyable performances from the dancers of Golden Star Morris there will be plenty to entertain the crowds.
Watch chainsaw carver Shaun Gilbert expertly shaping some of his beautiful sculptures throughout the day Discover the tale of the ‘Grayte Wyrm of Gressenhall’, a dragon that just loves to eat apples, with special performances from the ‘Fools Puppet Theatre Companie’.
Get crafty in Art Attack and make apple decorations. Join the Grand Apple Day Parade at 3.15pm, and wassail around our orchard with over 30 varieties of apples discovered, raised or developed in Norfolk.
Watch the steam thresher separating the cereal grains from the stalks on Gressenhall Farm, or see what our Suffolk Punch horses are working on in the fields.
There are lots of opportunities to buy direct from local producers of apple juices, ciders, cakes and autumnal preserves and chutneys. See local artists and craftspeople demonstrating and selling their wares including crochet crafts, pottery, willow baskets, paintings and original prints. Watch the blacksmith from Westfield Forge and see green workers demonstrations their skills and pole lathe turning.
All in all, the day promises lots of fun and autumnal celebrations for all the family.
