A man from Walsall was sentenced on Thursday 24 November 2016 after secretly filming students from the University of East Anglia.
23-year-old Luke Mallaband of Yew Tree Road, Walsall, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court where he was sentenced to a three year community order.
Mallaband had pleaded guilty to six voyeurism offences; four counts of recording a private act and two counts of installing equipment, committed between 2012 and 2016.
In January 2016 police received reports of a student finding a bag at the side of a unisex toilet in the UEA. Inside the bag was an iPhone 6 which appeared to be switched on and recording.
Further investigations lead to seizure of several electrical items and the subsequent arrest of Mallaband. Officers examined the items and Mallabands phone/laptop was found to contain 38 videos of unsuspecting men and women.
In addition to his sentence Mallaband must complete a 200-hour sex offending behaviour programme and pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge. He was also banned from all gender neutral and female public toilets for three years and imposed a six-month curfew from 7pm to 7am daily.
