Norfolk County Council is urging residents to register to vote for the County Council elections in May.

Residents will head to the polls on Thursday 4 May to vote for which Norfolk County Councillors they would like to see elected to form the new Authority and take responsibility for services such as adult social care, education, roads, waste disposal, Fire and Rescue, trading standards and libraries.

The County Council is made up of 84 elected members who represent an electoral division of up to 10,000 voters each. In the last County Council elections in May 2013 the percentage of Norfolk people who voted was 32.14%.

Residents must ensure they are registered to vote. This can be done by applying to their district, borough or city council to be included on the electoral register – the last date to do this is Thursday 13 April.

Wendy Thomson, Managing Director at Norfolk County Council, said: “The County Council spends almost £1.5 billion a year and is responsible for the management of many critical services that affect all of our lives on a daily basis. That is why it’s absolutely essential that people take this opportunity to help shape the County Council and the choices it makes for the next four years.

“Every vote really does matter and can make all the difference. So I urge every resident to make sure they are registered and join the rest of Norfolk on 4 May to cast their vote.”
