· Open Day on 26 Aug discover Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Theatre Stage Two with all events free during the day

· Family Festival 29 Aug – 1 Sep at Norwich Theatre Playhouse, a four-day celebration of family, imagination and creativity

Explore all three Norwich Theatre venues this August, with fun, immersive activities to keep the whole family occupied in the last week of the summer holidays.

The Open Day gives visitors the chance to go on an access-all-areas theatre tour, with free guided tours running all day. The tours will explore the dressing rooms, orchestra pit and onto the famous stage.

The technical team will be on hand to answer questions about what it takes to stage the huge productions you see, and you can even try your hand at lighting the stage for yourself. In addition, there will be an opportunity to browse the theatre’s archive of show programmes, posters, and so much more!

Families of every kind are invited to Norwich Theatre Playhouse for the Family Festival. There will be diverse and exciting workshops, performances, free drop-in activities, and inspiration for everyone.

Families are encouraged to get creative together: whether that’s singing your favourite show tunes with Musical Theatre Song (1 Sep); stepping into the shoes of a set designer with the free workshop Stage in a Shoebox (29 Aug); getting your groove on with Mini Dance Lab (1 Sep) or joining The Poetry Jam (30 Aug) for a fun exploration of poetry!

You won’t want to miss Play at the Playhouse (31 Aug) for your chance to perform on the Playhouse stage. This session is a fun and accessible approach to devising a piece of theatre, with no previous drama experience needed.

There will be free drop-in events throughout the week in the River Tent in the Playhouse Garden. Come and join the Drumming Circle (1 Sep) and share your spirit and natural rhythm through an array of traditional African drums and percussion instruments. Why not try Playhouse Tapestries (29 Aug), where you can create bunting with unusual materials or add to the Never-ending story (30 Aug) being created.

Sam Beal, Creative Engagement Officer at Norwich Theatre, is excited to welcome families to the Playhouse. He said: “This is a chance to tread the boards on one of Norwich’s most loved stages, develop skills and build confidence with your family.

“All are welcome at this intergenerational party – from bumps to great grandparents – there will be something for everyone, so bring the whole family and share in some inspirational creative experiences with the ones you love the most.”
