Norwich Theatre and Lost in Translation Circus are thrilled to be able to announce the final artist who completes the line-up for INTERLUDE@UEA is globally renowned actor, comedian, writer and political activist, Eddie Izzard.

Eddie will preview his show ‘Great Expectations’, Charles Dickens’ tale of convicts, mystery, friendship, rivalry, unrequited love, revenge and redemption, in the INTERLUDE@UEA big top on Saturday 3rd October.

Hailed as the foremost stand up of his generation. Star of stage and screen. Tireless supporter of charity. Runner. Political campaigner. Human. Eddie Izzard is all of these things and more. But few know that it was acting that was Eddie’s first love. This preview show offers the chance to see Eddie as he follows in Dickens’ footsteps with his live performance of the master storyteller’s much-loved classic.

This performance sees Eddie return to UEA where he last performed in 2013 as part of the University’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and where he received an Honorary Doctorate in 2003. Eddie is also no stranger to the Norwich Theatre Royal and Playhouse stages, having most recently peformed his show ‘Wunderbar’ to sold out audiences in October 2019.

Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive of Norwich Theatre, said: “After the amazing success of INTERLUDE in Chapelfield Gardens, which boasted some of the greatest names in UK comedy, I knew there was only one performer that could make the second phase of INTERLUDE at UEA really special and I am beyond thrilled that Eddie accepted our invitation and is coming to join us in the big top, completing a fantastic lineup.”

Set in Lost in Translation’s big top tent on the UEA’s beautiful campus, INTERLUDE@UEA is a two-week extension of the original INTERLUDE programme in Chapelfield Gardens specifically timed to coincide with new and returning UEA students arriving in Norwich and delivered in partnership with the University of East Anglia. It features an exciting mix of comedy, music and circus/cabaret with a set of performances specifically for UEA Students alongside another set of performances made available for the public. All performances and activities will be delivered in strict adherence with COVID-19 regulations.

INTERLUDE@UEA is the next instalment of Norwich Theatre’s During the Interval programme, a series of truly unique and different events, activities and interventions bridging the gap between closing its doors in March until its venues are able to properly re-open again. The series now includes:-

the re-opening of the Playhouse Bar with a creative conversion of the much-loved stage at the Playhouse into a relaxed new lounge area;
the hugely popular INTERLUDE which saw sell-out live performances in a temporary outdoor venue across six weeks in Chapelfield Gardens;
Norwich Free Market now being held in the Theatre Royal Car Park on a monthly basis;
a special season of festive shows for 2020, A RIGHT ROYAL CHRISTMAS, which will see the Theatre Royal temporarily re-open to audiences during December.
