“I’m dreaming of a green Christmas…”

As lights sparkle on the tree, the weather turns crisper and excitement mounts families’ attentions turn to the ever expanding Christmas wish list of the little ones in the family.
Whilst Christmas can be a time of happiness and joy for many Christmas doesn’t have to cost or damage the earth with toys, books and clothes requiring a new home via Mum2Mum Markets in Norfolk.
A poll by the British Heart Foundation found that more than a quarter of parents admit to throwing away toys that are in perfect working order. It spoke to more than 2,000 people and found children have an average of four toys they’ve never played with.
Norwich based Mum2Mum Market Nearly New Sales Owner Emma Jones said: “Whilst we don’t know exactly how much of the plastic that ends up in landfill comes from toys, green campaigners say that consumers can help reduce the amount in circulation.
“Research has suggested that plastic toys don’t have to be avoided – in fact they last for approximately 15-20years making them far from single use.
“Christmas can also be really expensive and it doesn’t have to be. With many toys not even making it out of the packaging people can pick up real finds at sales such as our Mum2Mum markets whilst helping the environment at the same time.”
Mum2Mum Market Nearly New Sales allow parents to sell their preloved high quality items to other parents and parents to be at a dedicated sale. The events are more than a table top sale with the opportunity to socialise at the dedicated refreshment area whilst allowing buyers to shop hands free by checking their pushchair into the dedicated buggy creche.
Each sale has at least 20 mums selling at every mum2mum market meaning there is a huge choice of baby and children’s items for sale. Goods for sale range from designer prams, furniture and moses baskets to large toys, books, baby equipment and clothes from newborn to six years old.
All the venues are indoors and the sales draw a large crowd with buyers queuing up to half an hour before the sale starts to get the best bargains. The first 100 buyers all receive a goody bag to carry their wares home in.
Forthcoming sale dates include;
• Saturday 30th November, Queens Hill Primary School, Fieldfare Way, Costessey, NR8 5FT
• Sunday 1st December, The Atrium, Spenser Avenue, North Walsham, NR28 9HZ
