Norfolk’s Fire and Rescue Team are running awareness evenings in Kings Lynn and Norwich this week in a bid to attract new wholetime firefighters.

The aim is to enable people who may not have considered a career as a firefighter to visit a fire station, meet some of our firefighters, find out more about the role, career opportunities and what is involved in the recruitment process.
The service is keen to encourage more women and people from diverse ethnic and international backgrounds to apply to become firefighters. These groups are currently underrepresented within Norfolk Fire and Rescue. The new recruits will be based in the wholetime station areas of Norwich, Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth and Thetford.

Recently recruited firefighter Joanne Sinclair says “I joined the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Team last year and it has been a fantastic experience, it’s challenging and can be tough at times but I’ve also found it extremely rewarding”

Chief Fire Officer David Ashworth says “having worked in Fire and Rescue for over 30 years I can strongly recommend it as a career. There are opportunities to progress within the service and undertake specialist roles – all of which contribute to the safety of our communities. Every one of our managers started their career as a Firefighter.”

Norfolk County Council’s chairman of communities, Margaret Dewsbury, said: “Firefighting is only a small part of what is required as a firefighter. The different skills you would learn and the sense of achievement you would experience makes this a very desirable and fulfilling career path.”

There are two awareness evenings  in Norwich including one women only session.
Numbers are strictly limited and places must be booked in advance by calling 0300 123 1669 ext 37683 or ext 38606. You must be over 18 years of age to attend.
